BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Battling off
a steady mist of rain, the Lock Haven University baseball
team (9-6) used a four-run third and cut short a late
rally to down Bloomfield College (4-15), 6-2 today (March
20). Scheduled for a double-header, game two was cancelled
because of deteriorating field conditions.
LHU
started the game with two runs, quickly answered by the
Deacons with a two-run bottom half of the first. The Bald
Eagles took charge for good in the third inning.
Junior
Kurt Elbin
(Bedford, Pa./Delgado C.C.)
singled to start the inning. Junior
Aaron Neideigh’s (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley)
sacrifice-bunt attempt caused a
throwing error, giving Lock Haven second and third with no
out. Sophomore catcher
Travis Ruane
(Hughesville, Pa./Shippensburg University)
took advantage of the opportunity, driving home two with
his lone hit of the game.
After a
Dave Miller
(Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) single and stolen base,
junior Kyle
Elbin (Bedford, Pa./Delgado C.C.) capped the
inning with a two-run single of his own. Miller finished
2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
BC
threatened in the seventh inning, loading the bases on
three-straight walks by Bald Eagle closer
Andy Leakey (State College, Pa/State College).
Senior
Kenny
Janiszewski (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock)
shut the door on the Deacon rally, getting the final three
batters with a pop-up and double-play grounder.
“(Leakey)
was pretty tight, not having pitched in a week and with
the cold rain,” said LHU assistant coach
Heath Stover.
“(Janiszewski) was able to get us out of the jam.”
The Bald
Eagles used five pitchers, with sophomore
Jason A. Brindle
(James Creek, Pa./Huntingdon Area) picking up the win,
improving to 2-1. Janiszewski earned his fourth save with
the game-ending effort.
Elbin, Neideigh, Ruane, Miller, Elbin,
Leakey, Janiszewski, Brindle and the rest of the Bald
Eagles are back in action Saturday, March 26 at noon as
they host Bloomsburg University. |
