CLARION, Pa. – Sophomore
Blake Barbini (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) got the
win as pitcher and went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs
scored, powering the Lock Haven University baseball team
(11-10, 1-1 PSAC West) to their first Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) West win in a double-header
split, 9-4, 5-2 at Clarion University (10-9-1, 2-2 PSAC
West) today (April 1).
In game
one, the Bald Eagles answered one rally, but not a second.
Down 3-2 after three, LHU plated two runs in the fourth.
After a leadoff double by senior shortstop
Brett Kelley (Williamsport,
Pa./Williamsport), he came
around to score on a throwing error on the next play.
Senior designated hitter Chris Miller (Tyrone,
Pa/Bellwood-Antis) plated the second run with a
single, putting Lock Haven ahead 4-3.
The
Golden Eagles would then mount five unanswered runs to win
the first game 9-4. Junior Bryan
Stamm (Mifflinburg, Pa./Temple University)
took the loss in a five-inning effort, falling to 2-2.
Clarion’s Bill Young (2-0) picked up the win.
In game
two, Barbini scored a run in the sixth and drove home
another with a double in the seventh to ignite a four-run
rally that gave the Bald Eagles a 5-2 win.
Barbini
entered in relief from his designated-hitter role,
pitching the fifth inning to get the win, improving to
2-2. Senior Andy Leakey (State
College, Pa/State College) went
two innings to get his third save. Clarion’s Josh Gerstel
drops to 3-2 after today’s loss.
Barbini,
Kelley, Miller, Stamm, Leakey and the rest of the Lady
Eagles are back in action tomorrow, April 2, at 1 p.m. as
they host Clarion. |
