LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
The Lock Haven University baseball team
(11-12, 1-3 PSAC West) hit well in game one and pitched
well in game two, but unfortunately lost both to Clarion
University 11-8-1, 3-1 PSAC West) 6-5 and 5-0 today (April
4) at Foundation Field.
Sophomore
Blake Barbini
(Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area)
powered the offense in game one, going 3-for-4 with two
RBI and a double. LHU plated three runs in the first two
innings, as Barbini doubled home one in the first, and a
pair of runs scored in the second on wild pitches to give
the Bald Eagles the 3-0 advantage.
The Golden Eagles would answer in a big
way, scoring five times in the third, with the big blow
coming in the form of a three-run homerun.
Clarion
would tack on their final run in the fourth before LHU
would pick up one on a single by senior shortstop
Brett Kelley
(Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport).
In the fifth inning, Barbini would knock home junior
second baseman
Kurt Elbin
(Bedford, Pa./Delgado C.C.) for
the final run of the game. Elbin would finish the day
4-for-6 with two runs scored.
LHU
threatened to tie in the fifth, as after Barbini’s single
was another single by
Dave Miller
(Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis), giving the Bald Eagles a
first-and-second situation with just one out, but they
couldn’t capitalize.
Freshman
Patrick Young (Allensville,
Pa./Indian Valley) went 2.1
innings in the loss, dropping to 1-3, while Clarion’s Brad
Adamski (1-3) picked up the win.
Game two was a scoreless pitcher’s dual for
the first five innings, before Clarion posted two in the
sixth. Barbini was the hard-luck loser, having scattered
five hits over six innings before throwing one bad pitch
to Clarion’s Kevin Gledhill for a two-run homerun.
The Golden Eagles added three more runs in
the top of the seventh to put it out of reach.
Barbini (2-3) fanned four in the loss, and
Clarion’s Jared Frey (2-0) got the complete-game victory.
Barbini, Kelley, Elbin, Miller, Young and
the rest of the Bald Eagles will be back in action
Tuesday, April 5 at 1 p.m. as they travel to East
Stroudsburg University. |
