SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – It
was a tale of two games for the Lock Haven University
baseball team (6-10, 1-5 PSAC West) but unfortunately both
tales led to losses at Shippensburg University (16-18, 2-4
PSAC West) today (April 8) 3-0 and 15-6.
Game one was a
pitcher-friendly contest, featuring just eight total hits.
LHU starter
Bryan Stamm (Mifflinburg, Pa./Temple University)
allowed just one earned run in five innings with three
strikeouts, falling to 1-2.
The big inning for the Red
Raiders came in the third, when they plated two runs on a
throwing error. Shippensburg’s Lee McClintock (3-2) got
the win with a complete-game effort.
The bats came alive for both
teams in game two, as Shippensburg wasted no time getting
to LHU starter
Jason A. Brindle
(James Creek, Pa./Huntingdon Area), plating six
runs in the first two innings. The Bald Eagles broke the
shutout in the third, as junior second baseman
Kurt Elbin
(Bedford, Pa./Delgado C.C.) doubled to right center
with one out and eventually scored on an error.
Ship answered with three runs
in the bottom of the third for a 9-1 lead. Elbin got
things rolling again with a walk in the fifth, followed by
an Aaron
Neideigh (Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) single
and an RBI double off the bat of sophomore first baseman
Blake Barbini
(Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area), his third RBI
double in the last five games. Senior designated hitter
Chris Miller
(Tyrone, Pa/Bellwood-Antis) singled home a pair of
runs to cap the inning for LHU.
Lock Haven failed to hold the
momentum once again, as Shippensburg plated five runs in
the bottom half of the fifth for a 14-4 advantage.
Consecutive doubles by senior
rightfielder
Dave Miller (Tyrone, Pa/Bellwood-Antis) and
shortstop
Brett Kelley (Williamsport,
Pa./Williamsport) scored two more runs in the seventh,
but LHU’s rally would end there.
Brindle (1-3) suffered the
loss in a one-inning effort, while Red Raider starter
Frank D’Augustino (5-3) went six in the win.
Stamm, Brindle, Elbin,
Neideigh, Barbini, Miller, Miller, Kelley and the rest of
the Bald Eagles return home tomorrow, April 9 at 1 p.m. as
they host Shippensburg.
