JOHNSTOWN, Pa. –
The Lock Haven University baseball team (14-21, 4-8 PSAC
West) dropped a pair of games in large fashion at the
University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown (26-16) 18-3 and 13-0
today (April 21).
The Mountain Cats
started game one on the offensive, scoring 13 unanswered
runs in the first five innings. The Bald Eagles picked up
their three runs in the sixth.
A leadoff walk followed
by a Blake
Barbini (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) double gave
LHU second and third with no outs. A groundout plated one
run before a single off the bat of sophomore catcher
Travis Ruane
(Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) scored another. Three
batters later, a bases loaded walk capped the scoring on
the day for the Bald Eagles.
Sophomore righthander
Kyle Wentz
(Schuylkill Haven, Pa./Blue Mtn) fell victim to the
error, going four innings and allowing three earned runs
to fall to 1-3. Matt Hayes (4-1) went six innings for the
win.
Game two was nothing to
write home about for the Bald Eagles, as rightfielder
Neil Herman
(Coatesville, Pa./Delaware County C.C.) singled with
one out in the seventh to avoid the no-hitter. The big
inning was the sixth for UPJ, as they brought home 10
runs.
LHU starter
Ian M. Whinnery
(Towanda, Pa/Towanda) got the loss in 5.1 innings,
falling to 1-2. Adam Plummer (2-3) picked up the win in a
six-inning effort.
Barbini, Ruane, Wentz,
Herman, Whinnery and the rest of the Bald Eagles are back
in action Friday, April 22 at 1 p.m. as they travel to IUP.
