INDIANA, Pa. – The
Lock Haven University baseball team (14-23, 4-10 PSAC
West) lost both games of a double-header at IUP (11-18,
4-10 PSAC West) 6-1 and 3-2 today (April 22). Game two was
shortened to 4 ½ innings because of rain.
IUP posted one run each in
the second and third innings, both unearned scores aided
by a pair of Bald Eagle errors. LHU climbed within one in
the fifth.
Junior rightfielder
Neil Herman
(Coatesville, Pa./Delaware County C.C.) reached and
moved to second base on a throwing error. Classmate
Kurt Elbin
(Bedford, Pa./Delgado C.C.) singled up the middle to
bring the speedy Herman home. Elbin finished game one at
2-for-4 with an RBI.
The sixth inning wasn’t kind
to the Bald Eagles, as four hits, including back-to-back
doubles, scored four runs and put the game out of reach.
Junior
Bryan Stamm
(Mifflinburg, Pa./Temple University) went 5.2 innings
in the loss, allowing just three earned runs, falling to
2-5. IUP starter Anthony Rebyanski (4-3) went the distance
for the win.
Game two had all of its
scoring early, as both teams did all of their damage in
the first frame.
LHU started things hot,
getting two runs in the first. Elbin scored on an error
before sophomore catcher
Travis Ruane
(Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) plated the second run
on a single to left.
IUP picked up three runs to
answer, bringing home two on a pair of RBI singles. The
pitching took over after the first, but the game was
called after the Bald Eagles batted in the fifth, handing
IUP the win.
Righthander
Jason A. Brindle
(James Creek, Pa./Huntingdon Area) went all four
innings in the loss, dropping to 3-4. IUP’s Jim Leonard
(1-4) picked up his first win in five innings of work.
Herman, Elbin, Stamm, Ruane,
Brindle and the rest of the Bald Eagles will look to get
revenge on IUP at home tomorrow, April 23 at 1 p.m.
