LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – One
day after dropping a double-header away, the Lock Haven
University baseball team (16-23, 6-10 PSAC West) turned
the tables, taking two games from IUP (11-20, 4-12 PSAC
West) in dominating fashion, 6-0, 9-1 today (April 23) at
Foundation Field. The wins boost LHU out of the PSAC West
cellar set the Bald Eagle sights on fourth place.
Sophomore lefthander
Blake Barbini
(Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) dominated game one,
allowing just two hits and walking one with a Bald Eagle
season-high 10 strikeouts in the complete-game win.
Barbini (5-3) allowed just one runner to reach second
base.
The Bald Eagles did all of
their damage late, as they finally broke the scoreless tie
in the fifth.
Senior shortstop
Brett Kelley
(Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) led off with a walk
and promptly stole second. After a sacrifice bunt, an out
and a walk, junior leftfielder
Aaron Neideigh
(Spring Mills, Pa./Penns Valley) singled home Kelley.
LHU added insult to injury in
the sixth, putting up five more runs on five straight
singles. Sophomore third baseman
Chad Mix
(Williamsport, Pa./S. Williamsport) ripped a single up
the middle for two RBI, with a third run scoring on an
error by the centerfielder.
LHU plated six runs, but not
one Bald Eagle posted a multi-hit game. IUP’s Alex Gett
(1-1) went five innings in the loss.
Game two was more of the
same, as it took four innings for the Bald Eagle bats to
warm up again.
Senior first baseman
Dave Miller
(Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) snapped the scoreless tie
with an RBI single, plating Neideigh, who singled to start
the inning.
IUP tied it back up with a
run in the fifth, but LHU answered with a five-run inning
to jump back ahead.
Neil Herman
(Coatesville, Pa./Delaware Valley C.C.), Neideigh and
Travis Ruane
(Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) each had RBI singles,
while Miller capped the inning with a big double, scoring
two runs. Miller finished the game at 2-for-4 with three
RBI.
Mix and Neideigh brought in
two more runs with singles in the sixth, as LHU added
three more runs, aided by five wild pitches in the inning.
Barbini, Kelley, Neideigh,
Mix, Miller, Herman, Ruane and the rest of the Bald Eagles
are back in action Friday, April 29 at 1 p.m. as they host
Slippery Rock University.
