LOCK HAVEN, Pa.
– The Lock Haven University baseball team (16-25, 6-12
PSAC West) got off to a pair of good starts, but didn’t
have good finishes today (April 29) in dropping a
double-header to Slippery Rock University (30-12, 11-7
PSAC West) 7-1 and 8-3 at Foundation Field. Senior
Brett Kelley
(Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport)
was 4-for-5 with three RBI on the day.
The first game started on the
right note, as LHU posted a run in the first. After a
leadoff walk by junior
Kurt Elbin
(Bedford, Pa./Delgado C.C.)
and a pair of outs later, sophomore
Travis Ruane
(Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville)
put the Haven on the board with a sacrifice fly.
Junior starter
Bryan Stamm
(Mifflinburg, Pa./Temple University)
was burned by the timely hit all day, as SRU answered with
seven runs over the final six innings of the game, the big
inning coming in the third, as they brought home four.
Stamm (2-6) went the distance
in the loss, fanning six, while Rock starter Roccy
D’Angelo (7-1) allowed just three hits in the win.
Game two started the same
way, as Kelley celebrated senior day with an RBI single,
plating Elbin. SRU answered with two unearned runs off LHU
starter
Jason A. Brindle
(James Creek, Pa./Huntingdon Area)
in the third, but the Bald Eagles jumped back in front in
the bottom half.
Back-to-back singles by Elbin
and junior rightfielder
Neil Herman
(Coatesville, Pa./Delaware County C.C.)
preceded a sacrifice bunt, giving Kelley two runners in
scoring position, as he promptly doubled them both home
for the 3-2 lead.
SRU then got the final six
runs of the game, three each in both the fifth and sixth,
for the 8-3 win. Brindle (3-5) went 5.2 innings in the
loss, while the Rock’s Dan Herisko (5-1) got the
complete-game victory.
Kelley, Elbin, Ruane, Stamm,
Brindle, Herman and the rest of the Bald Eagles play their
final games of the 2005 season tomorrow, April 29 at 2
p.m. as they travel to Slippery Rock.
