HAVEN MEN WIN, WOMEN TAKE SECOND AT MAROON & GOLD INVITE
Chris Cowan Captures Individual Title in Men's Race

(Lock Haven, Pa.) – The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania men’s cross country team captured the team title at the Maroon and Gold Invitational hosted by Kutztown University, taking the top five spots paced by a win for Chris Cowan (Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison). The women’s team fared just about as well, placing second overall.
            The Bald Eagles took the top five spots and 12 of the first 18, with Chris Cowan collecting individual top honors in a time of 26:06 over the 8K course.  With all five runners scoring in the top five, the next closest team to the Haven’s perfect total of 15 points was Kutztown, who finished with 52 points. Fellow senior Joe Wiegner (Ivyland/Council Rock) was second in 26:14 along with Ryan Blood (Summerdale/East Pennsboro), who was just a split second behind, also in 26:14 in third place.  Paul Hallman (Langhorne/Neshaminy) and Billy Buckenmeyer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) were the fourth and fifth runners to cross, Hallman finishing in 26:29 while Buckenmeyer completed the course in 26:58.
            In the women’s race, the Lady Eagles were second behind Kutztown University (19 points) with 44 tallies. Sophomore Kat Davey (Springfield/Springfield) was second in the individual tally, crossing the finish on the 6K course in 24:54.  Sarah Robertson (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) placed 10th overall in 25:50, and April Salinas (Mill Hall/Central Mountain) was 14th with a time of 26:12.  Also scoring for the Haven were Ashley Arnold (Hanover/South Western) (17th; 26:33) and Leigh Ann Miller (St. Thomas/James Buchanan) (18th, 26:41).
            The Lock Haven teams have a weekend off before returning to action at the Division II Pre-Nationals meet at Southern Indiana University on Sat., Sept. 25.
