Lock Haven Men Win Division II Pre-Nationals at Southern Indiana University

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The No. 11 Lock Haven University men’s Cross Country team captured their second overall victory of 2004 at the NCAA Division II Pre-Nationals Stegemoller Classic hosted by Southern Indiana University.  The Bald Eagles placed four runners in the top ten, including top seed Chris Cowan (Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison), who placed third.  The women’s team came home in 13th.

With a team score of 48, Cowan led the Bald Eagles on the 8K course with a time of 25:02.  Followed closely behind was sophomore Ryan Blood (Summerdale/East Pennsboro), placing fourth with a time of 25:04.  The next Haven finisher was Paul Hallman (Langhorne/Neshaminy), crossing the line in eighth with a time of 25:51.  Rounding out the top-10 was junior Billy Buckenmeyer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central), with a time of 25:24.

In the women’s 6K race, the Lady Eagles scored 318 points, placing them 13th behind Wingate University.  Sophomore Kat Davey (Springfield/Springfield) placed 50th with a time of 24:58.  In 56th position was junior Sarah Robertson (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg), with a time of 25:07.  April Salinas (Mill Hall/Central Mountain) finished with a time of 25:18, placing her 62nd overall.  Also finishing for the Haven were Melissa Weaver (Denver/Garden Spot) (92nd, 26:02), and Leigh Ann Miller (St. Thomas/James Buchanan) (108th, 27:10).      

The Lock Haven men and women will be back on course this Friday, Oct. 1 at the Gulden Invite hosted by Bucknell University.
