XC Recap: #7 Men 1st, Women 4th at Rochester, Blood takes 12th at PSU

ROCHESTER, N.Y. and STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Despite competing without their top four runners, the No. 7 Lock Haven Men’s cross country team took the team title at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational. The women’s team also had a great finish, placing fourth of 11 teams. Two of the top men’s runners competed at the Penn State University Invite, with Ryan Blood (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro) taking 12th

The Lock Haven men scored 48 points, besting Carnegie Mellon University by one. Freshman Greg Davis (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) paced the Haven harriers at Rochester, finishing fifth overall in 26:26. Eleven seconds later, fellow freshman Shawn Moore (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) crossed the finish line. Placing eighth was sophomore Chris Robson (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) in 26:48.

Rounding out the Haven top-five were Zach Deitz (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) in 14th (26:56) and Aaron Benson (Mt. Jewett, Pa./Kane Area) in 15th (26:59).

The Lock Haven women finished with 132 points, 10 ahead of Case Western Reserve University. Leading the Lady Eagles in 20th place was Sarah Robertson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area), completing the 6000-meter course in 24:56. Two seconds behind was Kat Davey (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) earning 21st place. Leigh Miller (St. Thomas, Pa./James Buchanan) finished in 25:39, good for 31st.

Rounding out the women’s top-five were April Salinas (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) in 43rd (26:22) and Shelly Coupland (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) in 49th (26:36).

At the Penn State University Invite, Blood finished the 5.2-mile course in 25:56, the top Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference runner. Senior Chris Cowan (Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) slipped and fell on the muddy course, but persevered to finish 25th in 26:16, ahead of all PSAC runners outside Blood.
