LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s cross country team kicked off their 2005 campaign at the Bison Open tonight at Bucknell University.  The Bald Eagles placed five in the top ten, including junior Aaron Benson (Mt. Jewett, Pa./Kane Area High School), who finished fifth with a time of 15:10.   

Bald Eagle senior Bill Buckenmeyer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) copied Benson’s time, while junior Chris Robson (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land High School) and sophomore Ryan Blood (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro High School) finished in eighth with a time of 15:11.  Kyle Murray (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South) was the only freshman in the top ten, finishing ninth with a time of 15:21. 

"Our top finishers worked well together tonight," commented head coach Aaron Russell.  "This was a real confidence builder for the teams.  The runners that struggled some during the week came on well tonight, which I'm really happy about."

The Lady Eagles also had a strong showing, led by freshman Rebekah Schrader (Wysox, Pa./Towanda), senior Sarah Robertson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area), who echoed each other with a time of 19:45.  Senior Holly Bofinger (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) crossed the line with a time of 19:46.

Freshman Alyssa Douma (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) finished with a time of 19:50, while sophomore Missy Weaver (Denver, Pa./Garden Spot) finished in 20:20.  Freshman Katiera Carey (Mountoursville, Pa./Montoursville) crossed the line with a time of 20:33, while junior Jodi White (Athens, Pa./Athens) finished with a time of 20:49.

The Haven harriers will get their heels in motion again next Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Kutztown University Maroon and Gold Invite, which will begin at 10 a.m.
