        The Lady Eagle field hockey team scored a 2-1 overtime victory in its final regular season contest on the road against East Stroudsburg University (13-7, 9-7 PSAC), improving to 17-3 overall and 13-3 in the PSAC.  Senior midfielder Sara Segerlin’s (Penfield, N.Y./Webster) goal just over eight minutes into the overtime period decided the final outcome.
         The Haven took a quick lead with an unassisted goal from Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) a little more than two minutes into the contest.  The East Stroudsburg Warriors knotted the match at 1-1 on a goal four minutes later by Sara Gorman.  Despite several scoring opportunities by LHU, who out shot the Warriors 29-9, the score remained tied at one goal each through until the end of regulation.
         Into the extra period, the victory was earned for The Haven after a goal from Sara Segerlin in the ninth minute off a pass from Rebecca Steffen (Hawley/Wallenpaupack).  
         In goal, Melissa Stubblefield ( Carmel , N.Y./Carmel) stopped four Warrior shot attempts.  ESU’s Erica Green made 12 saves over the extra-minute contest.

 Up Next:  Lock Haven clinches the No. 3 seed in the PSAC Tournament.  With the semifinal match-ups determined, Lock Haven will travel to No. 2-seed Shippensburg University for the semifinal contest on Tues., Oct. 28.

       The No. 3-ranked Lady Eagle field hockey team upset No. 1-ranked Shippensburg University (17-2, 14-2 PSAC), 1-0, handing the Raiders their first shutout loss of the season.  Mandy Alderfer's (Harleysville/Souderton) goal with 2:42 remaining in the game was the deciding shot, improving Lock Haven to 16-3 overall and 12-3 in the PSAC.
        The first half was played even, both teams getting off four shots at the cage and both earning one penalty corner attempt.  Defense added to the balance of the opening period, LHU keeper Melissa Stubblefield (
Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) stopping three shots on goal and Shippensburg’s Nora Luchansky halting two Haven shot attempts.  
      The Lady Eagle offense came out of the break firing to change the tone of the game, however, getting off a total of ten shots on goal including several off of five second-half corner attempts.  As time was running off the clock, Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster) won the ball just outside of the circle and knocked it down to the left corner of the cage where Alderfer was waiting to send it through the defense for the victory.
      Stubblefield totaled four saves on the game, picking up her ninth shutout of the season.  Shippensburg’s Luchansky ended with four saves and one goal allowed.

         The Lock Haven University field hockey team improves its overall record to 15-3 with a win over NCAA Division I Longwood University ( 5-10-0 ) this afternoon.  LHU’s Sarah Huber (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Christopher Dock) had her first multiple-goal game, after scoring two goals in the win for the Haven.

        The Lady Eagle offense controlled the tempo of the game, taking 48 shots while holding Longwood to just seven shots at the cage.  LHU sophomore Megan Kurtz (Catasauqua, Pa./Northampton) was the first goal for the Haven, and only goal of the first half, on a penalty shot in the opening minute of the game.  Sarah Huber opened up the scoring in the second half with a goal off a penalty corner.  Huber also scored with just under 14 minutes left in the game.  Also scoring for the Haven was sophomore Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville, Pa. /Souderton) with 17:42 remaining.

         LU’s Lorrie Watts kept the Haven from continuing its shutout streak by netting a goal with 52 seconds remaining in the game.  Haven keepers split time with Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) in goal for about 64 minutes, tallying three saves, and Megan Barclay (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) closing the game with two saves and one goal allowed.

          The Lady Eagle field hockey improves to 11-3 in the PSAC with this afternoon’s 3-0 shutout over Slippery Rock University (3-13, 2-11 PSAC).  LHU’s Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) netted her 19th and 20th goals of the season to help guarantee the win.
         The Haven offense controlled the flow of the game, taking 24 shots at the cage as compared with Slippery Rock’s two shots.  Sophomore forward Nikki Sweger came away with an unassisted goal just
1:41 into the contest to put the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard.  A pass from Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster) to Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) ended up at the back of the cage to put Lock Haven up, 2-0, just five minutes later.
       Sweger rounded out Haven scoring with just over 16 minutes remaining in the first half, taking a the ball herself and sending it past the defense for her second and LHU’s third goal of the game.
      Slippery Rock goalie Kristin Sands was kept busy but made 12 saves in the effort.  LHU goalie Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) played out the contest, picking up her ninth shutout of the season.

The Lock Haven field hockey team defeated conference opponent Kutztown University (6-9, 5-7 PSAC) by a 6-0 margin this evening on Charlotte Smith Field to improve to 13-3 overall and 10-3 in the PSAC.  The Haven out shot KU 29-4 and held a 12-1 advantage on penalty corner attempts.
                Four first half goals by the Lady Eagles sealed the fate of the visiting Kutztown Golden Bears.  LHU’s first goal came at 2:54 into the game as Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster) rocketed a pass from Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) to the back of the cage.  Just two minutes later, the Lady Eagles struck again – this time Mandy Alderfer (Harleysville/Souderton) scored off a rebounded shot just in front of the cage.
                Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) followed her initial shot off a penalty corner and met the deflected ball five yards closer, sending it through for the score with nine minutes left in the half.  Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) scored on the same scenario before the close of the half for the 4-0 advantage.
                Hughes recorded her second goal of the game in the final half of action, making good on LHU’s first corner of the period off assists from Katie Stewartz (Boyertown/Boyertown) and Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg)Mandy Daschbach (Telford/Christopher Dock) added the sixth and final goal for the Lady Eagles with 21:46 showing on the clock.
                LHU’s Melissa Stubblefield ( Carmel , N.Y./Carmel) picked up her sixth shutout, while Kutztown’s Trista Hershey made eight saves.

      The #3 Lock Haven University Lady Eagles recorded their third-straight shutout as they recoded a 3-0 victory on the road at Mansfield University (3-10, 3-8 PSAC).  The Haven’s Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) logged her fourth game with three or more goals, scoring the hat trick to pave the way to the win.
      The Lady Eagles got off a total of 50 shots during the game, but the play of Mansfield keeper Heather Long (26 saves) kept them off the scoreboard for the first 15 minutes of the game.  Sweger pocketed her first goal with 19:37 remaining in the first half, making good on a pass from Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) to give LHU the one-goal lead by the intermission.
       Sweger scored two goals just 30 seconds apart in the second half to stretch out the lead, notching the first off a rebounded shot and the second off an assist from Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin).   
       Mansfield keeper Heather Long deflected 26 of LHU’s shots on goal, while Haven keeper Melissa Stubblefield ( Carmel , N.Y./Carmel) was able to handle both Mountaineer attempts on goal.

      The #3 Lock Haven University Lady Eagles picked up their seventh shutout victory of the season, posting a 3-0 win over conference opponent Millersville University (1-10, 1-9 PSAC). In the first game of the round-robin conference play, Lock Haven had defeated Millersville by a score of 2-1.
       The Haven offense controlled the game, out-shooting Millersville by a 42-1 margin while also gaining a 26-0 advantage in penalty corner attempts.  Mandy Alderfer (Harleysville/Souderton) tipped in a pass from Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) off a play from a penalty corner with 14:22 remaining in the first half to give the Lady Eagles the 1-0 lead.
       Two insurance goals were scored just over two minutes apart by Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) in the second half off of assists from conference assist leader Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) along with Mandy Daschbach (Telford/Christopher Dock)
       Haven keeper Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) stopped Millersville’s lone shot on goal, while the Marauders’ Jada Wolfe turned away 13 of the Haven’s shots.

        The #3 Lock Haven University Lady Eagles upset #1 Bloomsburg with a 1-0 shutout tonight at Charlotte Smith Field.  With the win, the Lady Eagles ended the Huskies 40-game win streak that dates back to the 2001 season.  The game winning goal, scored by freshman Mandy Alderfer (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), came in the second half off a pass from Jen DeNault (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg).  
        The Haven managed to break through the Huskie defense despite evenly matched play on both sides.  The Lady Eagles out shot Bloomsburg by a one-shot margin, 9-8, while Bloomsburg had an advantage with eight penalty corners to the Haven’s four.  LHU keeper Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel
, N.Y./Carmel) tallied three saves in the victory, matching BU's goal keeper Jamie Hartman who also tallied three saves, with one goal against.

        The Lock Haven field hockey team, now ranked No. 3 in the nation, lost a 2-1 overtime battle on the road at Indiana ( Pa. ) University (5-7, 4-5 PSAC) this afternoon. The Lady Eagles fall to 9-3 overall and 6-3 in the conference.
        The Haven out-shot Indiana by a wide gap, 37-8, and also held a 20-4 advantage over IUP in penalty corner attempts. Despite 18 first-half shots at the cage, the Lady Eagles and Indiana went into the half deadlocked at 0-0.  Indiana was the first to put up a point on the scoreboard, with Julie Bergen capitalizing off a pass from Becky Frank with just under 26 minutes remaining in the second half.  Lock Haven answered with an unassisted goal by Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster) four minutes later, knotting the score at 1-1. 
       Both teams came up empty handed in the remainder of the second half after stellar play by both keepers including 11 saves by Indiana ’s Jamie Parell and three by Lock Haven’s Melissa Stubblefield ( Carmel , N.Y./Carmel), forcing the game into overtime.  Nine minutes into the extra stanza, Indiana ’s Wendy Strohl hit paydirt, getting one past the Haven defense to give the home team the win.

       The No. 2-ranked Lock Haven field hockey team bounced back from a loss earlier in the week to capture a solid 6-0 victory over conference opponent and No. 4-ranked East Stroudsburg University (7-3, 5-3 PSAC) on Charlotte Smith Field this afternoon.  The Lady Eagles improve to 9-2 overall and 6-2 in the PSAC.
       The Haven offense dominated the game, getting off a total of 39 shots.  LHU opened up the scoring in the14th minute of the game as Mandy Daschbach (Telford/Christopher Dock) snuck the ball into the back of the cage off a rebounded shot.  Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster) brought the advantage to 2-0 after scoring from 10 yards out on a straight shot into the goal assisted by Katie Stewartz (Boyertown/Boyertown).  
      The Lady Eagles scored four more times in the second half, including two late goals by freshman forward Mandy Alderfer (Harleysville/Souderton). Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) recorded a goal nine minutes into the second half to boost the Haven lead to 3-0, then another unassisted score was tallied by Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg) to bring the lead to four goals.  Alderfer made good on passes from Kulina and Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) with 13 and nine minutes remaining to round out LHU scoring for the 6-0 victory.

           The No. 2-ranked Lady Eagles suffered their second defeat of the season on the road at the hands of No. 3-ranked Shippensburg University (8-1, 6-1 PSAC) by a final score of 5-3.  Lock Haven is now 8-2 on the season and 5-2 in PSAC competition.  
           Shippensburg jumped out to an early lead with a quick goal in the third minute, then added to the advantage with a score just before the close of the first half. The Haven’s Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg) found the back of the cage just two minutes into the second half, narrowing the gap to one goal, 2-1.  
           The Raiders responded with an unanswered three-goal run, moving back out into the lead with a now more comfortable 5-1 advantage.  A late surge by The Haven produced a goal in the 64th minute from Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East), who batted a loose ball into the corner of the cage to cut the deficit to three goals, 5-2.  Almost three minutes later, DeNault notched her second of the game off a penalty corner attempt with the assist from Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin), bringing the score to 5-3.  The Lady Eagles would run out of time, however, falling two goals short in the 5-3 final.

    The Lock Haven field hockey team captured its eighth win of the season with today’s 7-1 victory over the visiting Philadelphia University (1-4).  Lady Eagle forward Nikki Sweger (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin East) provided a hat trick along with one assist to pace an offense that out shot the Rams by a lopsided 29-4 margin.
    Senior Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster) scored in the game’s third minute to give The Haven the early advantage, but Philadelphia ’s Alaina Jacobi netted the equalizer with 17:43 remaining.  Back on the offensive, Lock Haven’s Mandy Alderfer (Harleysville/Souderton) scored twice within a two-minute period to get the lead back and give the home team the 3-1 half time advantage.  
    Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg) finished off a penalty corner attempt with a goal to open the second half. The final three goals were scored by Sweger, who tucked two away unassisted and scored another as the end result of action off a penalty corner.

     Lock Haven field hockey’s Nikki Sweger (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin East) scored four goals and an assist as the Lady Eagles soundly defeated Slippery Rock University, 8-1, in PSAC action this evening on Charlotte Smith Field. Lock Haven improves to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC, while Slippery Rock falls to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
     Sweger tallied all four of her goals in the first half, logging the game’s first goal just 2:59 into the contest.  Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster) scored her first of two goals in the 10th minute to push LHU out into the early 2-0 lead. Sweger took over from there, scoring three times in a seven-minute span to give The Haven the 5-0 half-time lead.  
     Segerlin notched her second goal in the final half off an assist from Sweger, then Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg) beat the keeper for a pair of goals in the last 15 minutes of the game to wrap up LHU scoring. 
     Slippery Rock’s Jen Kress posted a goal in a scramble in front of the cage at 56:55, preventing the shutout.

         Lock Haven’s Jen DeNault (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) scored a pair of goals to help lift LHU to a 4-1 victory over Kutztown University (2-4, 1-2 PSAC) in conference action this afternoon. The win brings the Lady Eagles’ overall mark to 6-1 and puts them at 4-1 in the PSAC.
        Though Lock Haven outshot the Golden Bears, 22-2, it was Kutztown who took the game’s early lead on a goal by Colleen Healy midway through the first half.  LHU answered with the equalizer with just under five minutes to go before intermission with a goal by DeNault assisted by Nikki Sweger (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin East)
        The Lady Eagle defense kept Kutztown from attempting a single shot in the second half, while the offense went to work and scored three goals to take over the lead.  Senior midfielder Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster) scored the go-ahead goal at 22:21 remaining, then freshman Mandy Alderfer (Harleysville/Souderton) added an insurance tally with 13:14 left on the clock.  DeNault’s second goal of the game came at 4:58 on the clock to round out game scoring and give LHU the final, 4-1 victory.
       Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) played all 70:00 minutes in goal for the Lady Eagles, while Kutztown’s Trista Hershey stopped 16 Haven shots on goal.

       Lock Haven’s Jen DeNault (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) tallied a hat trick, while six other Lady Eagles scored in the 10-0 defeat of Mansfield University (1-3, 1-2 PSAC) this afternoon at Charlotte Smith Field.  The Lady Eagles registered seven goals in the first half to garner their fourth shutout win of the season.  Nikki Sweger (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin East) had two goals in the effort.  
      The Lady Eagle defense didn’t allow a Mansfield shot until late in the second half.  LHU’s offense, meanwhile, controlled the flow of the game with 33 shots on goal and 13 penalty corners.  Mansfield was held to two corners.  
       In goal for Mansfield was Heather Long, who tallied 16 saves and allowed 10 goals.   The Haven goalkeepers split the time with starter Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) playing the first half and Megan Barclay (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) who tallied one save in the second half.

      Lock Haven’s Mandy Daschbach (Telford/Christopher Dock) scored the go-ahead goal with just under four minutes remaining in the game to lift the Lady Eagles over Millersville University (0-3, 0-2 PSAC), 2-1, in PSAC action in Millersville, Pa. The win improves LHU to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC.
       Millersville’s Sami Griffith gave the home squad the one-goal lead early in the second half with a sweep of the ball into the back of the cage from five yards out.  The Haven, who out-shot Millersville by a margin of 13-3, continued to take attempts on goal and finally connected with a scramble in front of the goal by Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) off a pass from Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) just five minutes after the Marauder score.  
      The score remained knotted at 1-1 until the 67th minute, when LHU freshman Mandy Daschbach netted her third goal of the season by beating the MU keeper to the lower left corner from 10 yards out. 
      Melissa Stubblefield ( Carmel , N.Y./Carmel) faced three shots, turning away one chance on goal.  Millersville’s Jada Wolfe stopped seven Haven shots on goal.

             The Lady Eagle field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to long time rival Bloomsburg University (3-0, 2-0 PSAC), 1-0, in a double-overtime battle on the road.  
             The Huskies' Shanna Fritz scored on a rebound with just five seconds remaining in the second overtime period to give Bloomsburg the victory.
          Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) posted a career-high 15 saves in goal in the effort.

             Lock Haven (3-0, 1-0 PSAC) junior midfielder Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) scored the hat-trick and added two assists to power the Lady Eagles past Indiana (Pa.) University (0-2, 0-1 PSAC) for the 7-0 victory in their conference-opening tilt.  The Haven shut down the Indiana offense, barring them from taking a single shot on goal and giving up only one penalty corner attempt.
             Senior Jen DeNault (Hamburg/Hamburg) opened scoring with a goal in the second minute of the game off the assist from Kulina.  Another senior, Sara Segerlin (Penfield, N.Y./Webster), upped the score to 2-0 in LHU's favor with another goal in the
Indiana come-back.  Kulina put the ball in the cage three times in the latter half, including once off a penalty corner.  Rookie forwards Sarah Huber (Plymouth Meeting/Christopher Dock) and Mandy Daschbach (Telford/Christopher Dock) each added goals to round out Haven scoring.
        Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel , N.Y./Carmel) recorded her third straight shutout victory, while Indiana’s Jamie Parell stopped 12 shots.

          The Lady Eagle field hockey team kicked off the 2003 season with a 4-0 shutout victory over Assumption College on the road at Lowell , Mass.  
          Balanced scoring guided the Haven to the win in its opener, with goals coming from four different players.  Returning All-American Nikki Sweger (Dauphin/Central Dauphin East) found the back of the cage for the first goal of the season midway through the first half.  Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville/Souderton) was the next to score, then assisted on the third LHU goal of the game.  Freshman Mandy Alderfer (Harleysville/Souderton) gave the Lady Eagles the three-goal lead just before the end of the first half.  Another freshman, Mandy Daschbach (Telford/Christopher Dock), completed Haven scoring with an unassisted goal in the waning minutes.
