(Villanova, Pa.) –  The Lady Eagle field hockey team remains undefeated at 5-0 as it shocked the Big East’s Villanova University (2-1) this evening by emerging with the 2-1 victory on the road.  Amanda Alderfer (Harleysville/Souderton) and Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) combined for both goals, keeping the Haven’s spotless record intact.
Villanova launched eight shots at the Haven goal in the first half, getting only one past senior keeper Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) at 8:21. The one-goal lead stuck through much of the first half, but the Lady Eagles’ Kulina assisted Alderfer in a goal off a penalty corner play to knot the score at 1-1 before the intermission.
The Wildcats would take another 13 shots in the second half but the Haven defense fought them all off and Stubblefield turned away all five that were on target. In the 61st minute, Kulina would get her stick on a loose ball rebound and feed it to Alderfer, who put the ball into the back of the cage for the winning score.
Villanova outshot the Haven, 21-12, and held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corner chances.  LHU’s Stubblefield had a big game in goal, recording seven saves in all. The Wildcats’ Erin Scott posted five saves in the loss.
Lock Haven returns home to host Bucknell University on Tues., Sept. 14, at 7 p.m.
