LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
The Lock Haven
University field hockey team (5-0) rode a second half
outburst to a 3-0 victory today over the Bucknell
University Bison (2-4) at Charlotte Smith Field.
Both teams were noticeably tentative in the early going,
each squad managing just three shots in the scoreless
first half, the first shot coming nearly 15 minutes into
the contest. The Lady Eagles turned on the pressure in
the second stanza, scoring all three goals in the
contest and out shooting the Bison 17-1.
“I
told them at halftime that we needed to increase the
defensive pressure,” head coach Pat Rudy said.
“We didn’t let them breathe in the second half.
Pressuring the ball and cutting off passing lanes
created opportunities for offense.”
Senior Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower
Dauphin) got the scoring started with her team-best
fourth goal of the year on a breakaway pass from
sophomore Mandy Dashbach (Telford,
Pa./Christopher Dock). Sophomores Nicole Dearden
(East Greenville, Pa./Quakertown Community) and Sarah
Huber (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Christopher Dock) added
their first and second goals, respectively, off shot
rebounds.
Rudy, Kulina, Dashbach, Dearden, Huber and the rest of
the Lady Eagles are back in action against the
University of Albany on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. at
Charlotte Smith Field. |
