LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
The Lock Haven
University field hockey team (7-1) endured its first
loss since moving up to Division I at the hands Colgate
University (4-3), 2-1 today at Charlotte Smith Field.
The win gives Colgate four in a row.
The
Raiders took better advantage of their chances in the
victory, as they were out shot by the Lady Eagles 22-11.
Kath Shelly broke a scoreless tie just six minutes into
the contest, as a shot bounced off LHU goalkeeper
Melissa Stubblefield’s (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) pad to
Ashley Schneider, who tapped it to Shelly behind the
defense for the empty-netter.
LHU
sophomore Mandy Daschbach (Telford/Christopher
Dock) scored her second goal in two games to even the
score and give the Lady Eagles some momentum, but
Colgate’s Sarah McCarthy hit the game-winner off a
penalty corner to dash LHU’s hopes at a perfect season.
Stubblefield (7-1) made one save in three chances for
the loss and Jacque DeMarco made eight stops in nine
chances for her fourth win.
Stubblefield,
Daschbach and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in
action at LaSalle University on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 4
