WASHINGTON –
On the strength of five
unanswered goals, the Lock Haven University field hockey
team (10-1, 1-0 NEC) defeated Georgetown University
(2-7), 6-2. Nikki Sweger (Dauphin,Pa./Central
Dauphin East) had a hand in half of the team’s goals,
scoring one and assisting on two.
LHU wasted little time
getting their goal parade started, as senior Kellie
Kulina (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) hit her
ninth goal of the year just over two minutes into the
game. Freshman Renee Kemmerer (Nineveh,
N.Y./Afton) and junior Courtney Hughes
(Schwenksville, Pa./Souderton) gave the Haven a 3-0
halftime advantage.
Sophomore Sarah Huber
(Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Christopher Dock) and freshman
Samantha Stoyer (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township)
tacked on second-half goals, giving LHU a 5-0 lead.
Sweger added her goal, sandwiched by two GU strikes, for
the final 6-2 tally.
Melissa Stubblefield
(Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) made two saves to improve to 9-1,
Abby Winer and Caitlyn Faller each appeared in goal for
Georgetown.
Sweger, Kulina, Kemmerer,
Hughes, Huber, Stoyer, Stubblefield and the rest of the
Lady Eagles are back in action Wednesday, Sept. 29 at
St. Francis University at 4 p.m. |
