LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
The Lock Haven
University field hockey team (12-1, 2-0 NEC) rallied
with two second-half goals, eventually winning 3-2 in
double overtime today over Columbia University (3-16).
High school teammates Sarah Huber (Plymouth
Meeting/Christopher Dock) and Mandy Daschbach
(Telford/Christopher Dock) played the heroes, scoring
all three goals for the Haven.
Daschbach nearly missed the chance for her game-winning
goal in double overtime, as the Lady Eagles fell behind
early, giving up first-half goals to Columbia’s Courtney
Robinson and Jen Cruz.
Head coach Pat Rudy rallied the troops at
halftime and it showed in a more potent offensive
attack, as LHU had 26 of its 33 shots after the half.
Huber scored back-to-back goals off penalty corner
misdirection, the second one a thrilling shot to tie the
game with just six seconds remaining.
After a scoreless overtime period, Daschbach took a tip
pass from Courtney Hughes
(Schwenksville/Souderton) off a rebounded penalty corner
shot and tapped it in the left side of the cage, giving
the Lady Eagles a 2-0 record in overtime contests this
season.
Melissa Stubblefield
(Carmel, N.Y./Carmel)
made three first half stops and didn’t face a shot after
halftime to improve to 10-1. Kristina George made 10
saves in 13 chances in the loss.
Huber, Dashbach, Rudy, Hughes and the rest of the Lady
Eagles are back in action Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.
against Sacred Heart University. |
