LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
The Lock
Haven University
field hockey team (16-1, 6-0 NEC) stands alone atop the
Northeast Conference standings after tonight’s victory
over Rider
University (11-2, 4-1
NEC), 2-1. The Lady Eagles have taken command in their
first season in Division I.
LHU
field hockey fans must have had double vision tonight, as
junior Courtney Hughes (Schwenksville,
Pa./Souderton) scored twice on similar place to pace the
Lady Eagles to their ninth win in a row.
Coming off of penalty corners, Sarah Huber
(Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Christopher Dock) passed the ball
in to Katie Stewartz (Boyertown,
Pa./Boyertown) for the stick-stop. Kellie Kulina (Hummelstown,
Pa./Lower Dauphin) took the ball and passed it to Hughes
for both strikes.
The
Haven desperately needed both of Hughes’s goals, as they
fell behind early on Katie Conlon’s rebound goal, her
second of the season.
LHU
battled back and was able to capitalize on the 12-4
penalty corner advantage.
Lady
Eagle goalkeeper Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel,
N.Y./Carmel) made five saves in the victory and Krysta
Bearish made six saves to take the loss.
Hughes, Huber, Stewartz, Kulina, Stubblefield and the rest
of the Lady Eagles are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 17
at 1 p.m. as they host Monmouth University. |
