The
Lock
Haven
University field hockey team’s (18-1, 8-0 NEC) dominance
of the Northeast Athletic Conference (NEC) continued
today, as they downed
Fairfield
University (7-12, 5-3 NEC) 1-0 in overtime. Senior
Katie Stewartz (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) notched the
game-winning goal in the 72nd minute.
A
scoreless tie at the end of regulation, the Lock Haven defensive line
came up big, allowing just two shots all game.
On
the Lady Eagles’ seventh penalty corner of the contest, Stewartz
recorded her third goal of the season on a pass from Nikki Sweger
(Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin East). Two of Stewartz’s goals have been
game-winners.
Lady
Eagle goalkeeper Melissa Stubblefield (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) made
one save for her fifth shutout of the season and 23rd of her
career, tying the senior for fourth in school history. The win gives the
Haven a perfect 8-0 conference record in their first season of Division
I play.
Stewartz, Sweger, Stubblefield and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back
in action on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at
7 p.m.
as they travel to
Lafayette
College for their final
game of the season.
