UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –
The Lock Haven University field hockey team (2-1) faced
the toughest foe of their young season today (Sept. 2) unfortunately
falling short at Penn State University (2-1) 4-1.
The
Nittany Lions broke out to a 2-0 halftime lead, set up by a penalty
corner and a broken play in front of sophomore goalkeeper
Becca Yerkes
(West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove).
The Lady
Eagles looked strong in the early going of the second half, scoring just
over three minutes into the second frame. Junior
Mandy
Daschbach (Telford,
Pa./Christopher Dock)
managed to poke in a rebounded shot to bring the score back to 2-1.
Daschbach has now scored in four straight contests, dating back to the
2004 season finale.
PSU
tacked on a pair of late second-half goals to put the contest out of
reach. The Lady Eagles remained close throughout most of the game,
despite a 15-2 deficit in penalty corners and a 16-8 PSU advantage in
shots.
Yerkes
(2-1) made a season-high seven saves in the loss, while Penn State’s
Megan Akstin (2-1) stopped four.
Yerkes,
Daschbach and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action Friday,
Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. when they travel to Towson University.
