KRISTINIAK RUNS FOR TWO TDS IN LOSS TO EDINBORO, 38-17

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team (3-8, 1-5 PSAC West) was plagued by another slow start today, falling behind No. 24 Edinboro University (8-2, 5-1 PSAC West) 14-0 in the first quarter and eventually 38-17 at the end of the game. Sophomore quarterback Rob Kristiniak (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield Township) ran for two touchdowns in the losing effort.

The Fighting Scots scored on six of their seven red-zone chances during the game, including a 4-yard pass from Justin Bouch to Justin Lipscomb, breaking the scoreless tie with 11:16 in the first. Harlan Hill Trophy candidate Andre Burke tacked on the other first-period score, a two-yard rush capping a 10-play 63-yard drive.

LHU would answer in the second quarter with Kristiniak’s first score, a three-yard rush. Lipscomb caught his second touchdown pass to extend the Fighting Scot lead back to two scores at the half.

Sophomore Dan Hagerman (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) cut the lead to 21-10 in the third quarter on a 45-yard field goal, the longest of his career. Hagerman hit field goals in seven of the team’s eleven games this season.

Matt Phillips punched it in from one yard out, capping a marathon 14-play drive for the ‘Boro.

Kristiniak struck again with 14:41 left in the fourth, this time from four yards out, finishing a drive that began in the third quarter, and bringing the game back to a manageable 28-17.

Edinboro answered on their very next possession with a Phillips 10-yard run, making it three players in the game with two touchdowns apiece. Kicker Kody Robertson added a 22-yard field goal to finish the scoring at 38-17.

 

Lock Haven’s all-time leading carrier Maurice Walker (N. Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) had 76 yards on 26 carries, finishing his prolific career at 691 attempts for 2,783 yards and 17 touchdowns.

In addition to Kristiniak’s two scores, he hit 50 percent of his passes for 156 yards, finding five different receivers on the day.

Defensively, sophomore end Brad Sones (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) continues to develop into a standout lineman with a team-high 11 tackles. Derek Harsch (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) and Jarrod Hendricks (Rockton, Pa./DuBois Area) each made eight stops and cornerback Mike Nesby (Rankin, Pa./Woodland Hills) nabbed his team-high third interception of the season.

The loss to Edinboro wraps up the 2004 season for the Bald Eagles. A 3-8 season that featured the first two overtime wins in school history, including a 16-13 upset of Clarion University for LHU’s Homecoming.
