Two Lady Eagles set to join Trinidad and Tobago Junior National field hockey team

James (left) and Lewis (right) will get the oppertunity to represent their country this fall.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Two members of the Lock Haven University field hockey team have been selected to represent their country as part of the 2008 Junior Pan American Games.

Junior Alana Lewis (Trinidad & Tobago/Southeast Port-of-Spain) and Sophomore Tonia Marie James (D'Abadie, Trinidad & Tobago/Saint Augustine Girls High) will play for Trinidad and Tobago’s Junior National Team, competing in the international tournament in Mexico City, Mexico, in October.

Lewis, who is coming off a very impressive sophomore season in which she started all 23 games, had four goals and added six assists from her back position. It was her role in the back that proved to be the biggest strength in the Lady Eagles overall success.

Lewis led the Haven’s dominating defense that only gave up only six goals in Northeast Conference (NEC) play and was rewarded for her efforts by being named NEC Defensive Player of the Year. Along with her NEC First Team honors she was also a Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-Mideast Region Second Team selection.

James also enjoyed a very successful 2007 campaign. In just her first season with the Lady Eagles James contributed a great deal to the offense. She scored six times and added one assist while competing in all 23 games this season. James was named NEC Rookie of the Week once during the 2007 season.

James started 12 of the 23 games she played in and will be a valuable component of The Haven’s future success.

Both players are huge parts of the Lady Eagles and will be valuable assets to the Trinidad and Tobago team.

The Pan Am competition is set to take place in Mexico City, Mexico and is scheduled for October 3-12.
