Homeruns mean more than just runs on the scoreboard for Lady Eagle softball program

Sarah Norris helped do her part with 16 homeruns this year.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – During the 2008 season the Lock Haven University’s softball season totaled 60 homeruns that were drilled out of various ballparks all over the United States.

These homeruns were a big reason why the Lady Eagles tallied an impressive 49-8 record and finished third in the nation.

However, the homeruns mean more than just runs on the scoreboard and mean more than the wins and loses to players and coaches alike.

For each homerun hit, the Lady Eagles donated $10 to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as they did their part to “Knock MS Out of the Park.”

LHU head softball coach Kelley Green and her team also accepted donations from outside the lineup making it a true Haven team effort, with many people happy to get involved for the this special cause

It’s a cause that hits close to home for the Lock Haven softball family as Kim Lindsey, the LHU Equipment Manager is stricken with the disease.

Lindsey coached The Haven softball program and was the catcher on the 1988 team that finished as National Runners-up.

MS is a disease which affects the immune system and central nervous system and is most common in young adults, usually women.

This past year the Haven softball squad raised $3,527 which puts them over $7,000 for the two years they’ve been holding this truly special fundraiser.

With “Knock MS Out of the Park,” the Lady Eagles hope to do all they can to help fight the debilitating disease.
