LHU Soccer - Men

Men’s soccer announces recruiting class

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lock Haven University head men’s soccer coach Doug Moore and his Bald Eagles are set to welcome 10 fresh faces that will take to the field in mid August looking to become a part of a traditional power that is LHU men’s soccer.

Despite having a new home at Hubert Jack Stadium, one thing will remain the same and that is, Moore’s squad will be among the conference’s elite while looking to be conference champion for the 21st time.

There will be a few small gaps to fill because of graduation, but this fall won’t be different than any other, as Moore has once again gone out and reloaded with tremendous talent.

He is very excited about the players coming in and feels that they will once again make LHU a team to be reckoned with.

“I’m thrilled with what’s coming in. I set a high a priority on the type of young men I bring in,” Moore said. “They are all wonderful people with strong soccer ability.”

Moore also noted the big jump the rookies will face. Not only is the game speed going to change dramatically, but the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) is known for its physical style of play.

In recruiting Moore looked for players that can “stand up, compete and contribute” and he feels and that’s what he has.

Moore is particularly pleased with a foursome of players that have the ability to compete for playing time from the start of preseason camp.

This extremely talented group of Kevin Wolfe (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), Bobby Mohr (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Greg Shertzer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and Mark Tattersall (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) come to LHU highly recommended and recruited with their eyes set on contributing right away.

Wolfe’s previous accomplishments speak for themselves as he comes to the Haven already a decorated player. He will add an attacking force from the midfield and Moore calls him an all-around good player, saying he’s quick, smooth on the ball a good passer.

Mohr, Tattershall and Shertzer much like Wolfe come to Lock Haven well decorated as soccer players.

Mohr and Tattershall, both high school teammates will push for early playing time. Both could see time on defense, while also contributing for the midfield.

Tattersall is what Moore refers to as the orthodox central back. He also brings good size at 6’2” to the back line, where his strong ability could put him on the field right from the start.

Mohr could play all over the backline and in the midfield, giving Moore a utility type of player he really likes. Moore calls him a “work horse.”

Shertzer is a hardworking striker, who knows how to finish. Moore calls him a tough player, who will be counted on up top to put the ball away. He gives Moore another option at the striker position, as several talented players return with Shertzer petitioning to be a prime running mate.

The trio of Mike Sawko (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville), Chris Wagner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) and Shawn Zehr (Ephrata, Pa./Living World Academy) come to the Haven looking to make their mark on the program as well.

Sawko, a local product is an athletic fullback, who can run box to box all day long.

Wagner is a player that Moore calls a “sleeper” and one that could certainly make case for himself as player on Moore’s squad. He’s a tough midfield, who can control and distribute the ball well.

Zehr was the captain of his high school squad and played all over the field adding athleticism and versatility to the picture for LHU.

Also is the mix will be Gary Knauer (Harvey’s Lake, Pa./Lake Lehman) andWilliam Pasukinis (Benton, Pa./Benton).

Knauer is a left sided player that could play in the back or the midfield and comes to LHU with a strong soccer background.

Pasukinis is a tough player, who is flat-out a goal scorer, according to Moore. He was also a very successful wrestler at Benton.

Anthony Rios (St. Cloud, Fla./Osceola) will join the Bald Eagles on the soccer field, making the transition from the track oval. He’s quick, athletic and will compete for a spot on defense.

The Bald Eagles begin their preseason training on August 14, and kick off the 2008 season on Friday, August 29 at 11 a.m. on the road at Wilmington University.
