Volleyball starts season 2-0 at Shepherd Tournament
 

Senior Stacey Borgia had a solid day today for LHU.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (2-0) kicked off the 2008 season with two victories at the Shepherd University tournament today.

In game one the Lady Eagles took on their host Shepherd and came away with a dominating 3-0 victory.

The Lady Eagles won 25-10, 25-24 and 29-27.

Senior Stacey Borgia (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) had a strong season opening match. She recorded a team-high 12 kills and hit .428 while also tallying six digs and one solo block.

Kim Windstein (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) had a eight kills (.385) and Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Austrailia/Gladstone) had six kills (.454).

Freshman Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) added six kills and Elizabeth Metzmaier (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) tacked on four.

Fabianna Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguay/Consejo de E.S.) recorded a team-high 34 assists. She also had four kills, no errors and three service aces.

Over the three game match LHU hit a very solid .422, which had head coach Tom Justice very pleased.

In game two today, LHU rolled past the University of District of Columbia 3-0 (25-13, 25-11 & 25-12).

Borgia was at it again with another strong performance. She has 11 kills and only two errors out of 13 total attempts giving her a .692 hitting percentage. She also added three digs and two blocks.

Justice called her hitting performance “fantastic.”

Metzmaier had six kills (.666) and Christina Laury (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) also hit .666 with five kills.

Gomez had a team-high 23 assists in the LHU’s second win of the day.

Gribler added four digs and two solo blocks.

The Lady Eagles are back in action tomorrow at the Shepherd tournament. They are set to take on Central State University at 9 a.m. and then play Shepherd again at 1 p.m.
