LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (1-1) lost its home opener today to No. 2 Maryland (1-0) 5-0.
The Lady Eagles opened their 2008 season yesterday with a 5-1 win over Longwood University at Bucknell.
With the loss The Haven moves to 1-1 on the young season. Today marked the season opener for Maryland.
The Terps are ranked No. 2 in the STX/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll.
Lock Haven was only down 1-0 at halftime, after a very entertaining first 35 minutes of play.
The Lady Eagles had some very solid scoring chances in the opening half, but couldn’t find the back of the cage in their home opener.
Blair Wynne (Trinidad and Tobago/Sangre Grande) played a solid game for LHU in the midfield and had a couple very fine scoring opportunities.
Suzann Hobart (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) led the Lock Haven attack with three shots on the day.
Sophomore Erin Terreson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made five saves for LHU.
The Lady Eagles battled tough throughout the second half and played some spirited hockey, but just couldn’t muster up any offense.
The Lady Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. when they take on Pacific University at Kent State University.
