Lady Eagles soar past Edinboro 3-1

Arielle Gordon scored two goals today to lead the Lady Eagles.

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (2-3, 1-3 PSAC West) picked up a big road win this afternoon as the Lady Eagles downed Edinboro University (2-3-1, 0-3-1 PSAC West) 3-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division action.

It is the first win at Edinboro since the 2004 season for the Lady Eagles.

Leading the way for LHU was sophomore Arielle Gordon (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), who had two goals.

Lock Haven led 2-0 at halftime, as Gordon netted both of her strikes in the first 45 minutes of play.

Lock Haven went up 3-0 in the 58th minute after a Lindsey Blessing (Fredericksburg, Pa./Governor Mifflin) corner found the head of freshman Brianna Orth (Hershey, Pa./Hershey), who drilled it home.

Rookie Kim Bentley (Springdale, Pa./Springdale) turned in a sensational performance in net for The Haven, making 10 saves.

The Lock Haven coaching staff praised Orth, Gordon and Bentley, saying they turned in solid outings, helping to lead a total team effort.

LHU head coach Heather Davis was also pleased with sophomore transfer Caitlyn Slattery (Williamsport, Pa./UMBC), who anchored the defensive unit today.

Lock Haven returns home on Monday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. when the Lady Eagles play host to the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.
