LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (4-4) fell to visiting Kutztown University (3-3-1) 3-2 tonight at Hubert Jack Stadium.
Kutztown went up 1-0 in the 18th minute of play, but the Lady Eagles would fight back to knot the game at 1-1 in the 26th minute.
An Angela Rineer (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) cross found the head of Arielle Gordon (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), who re-directed the ball far post for the equalizer.
Lock Haven was down 2-1 at halftime and KU went up 3-1 in the 57th minute.
The Lady Eagles continued to pressure and the hard work paid off as Courtney Johnson (Alexandria, Va./Edison) scored with less than 20 minutes to play.
Rineer’s assist and Johnson's goal mark the first points in her Lady Eagle careers.
Katie Smithmyer (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) played well in net for LHU and made seven saves.
The Lady Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at No. 12 Slippery Rock University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division contest. Kickoff at SRU is 6 p.m.
