FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (8-2) got a late game-winning goal and topped host Fairfield University (2-8) 2-1 today, improving 8-2 on the year.
With the win the Lady Eagles extend their win streak to six games.
LHU got a goal in each half today and outshot its hosts 19-6.
Blair Wynne (Trinidad and Tobago/Sangre Grande) put Lock Haven on the board in the 28th minute of play, as she deflected the ball into the cage. Alanna Lewis (Trinidad and Tobago/Southeast Port of Spain) and Suzann Hobart (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) were credited with the assists on the goal.
The Haven took the 1-0 lead into halftime and Fairfield evened the match at 1-1 in the 40th minute of play.
LHU wasn’t done and sophomore back Casey Hughes (Schwenksville, Pa./Souderton) drilled home the game-winner with less than two minutes to play.
Hughes’s game-winning strike was set up by Lewis off a penalty corner.
Erin Terreson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made three saves in the win.
The Lady Eagles are back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Yale.
