LHU Volleyball

Lady Eagles roll, improve to 5-0 in PSAC East action

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (17-3, 5-0 PSAC East) cruised past visiting East Stroudsburg (10-9, 4-3 PSAC East) 3-0 tonight in Thomas Fieldhouse.

The Lady Eagles won 25-12, 25-12 and closed out the match in game three with a 25-13 win as they dominated visiting ESU.

With the win LHU improves to a perfect 5-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action and snaps three-game losing skid.

Leading the way tonight was Stacey Borgia (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail), who had a team-high 12 kills. She hit a solid .429 over the three-game match.

A big key tonight for the Lady Eagles was their 13 aces.

The Haven went down 2-0 quickly in game one, but responded with a seven-point run that set the tempo for the match, as LHU eventually won the first game 25-12. With LHU up 24-12 Borgia got the game-winning kill to get Lock Haven rolling.

Game two was close with LHU leading 11-8 before it went on an eight-point run that stretched the margin to 19-8. LHU got the last five points of game twom putting the Lady Eagles up 2-0 in the match.

Lock Haven cruised in game three, jumping out to a 12-4 lead before taking it home 25-13.

Elizabeth Metzmaier (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) had seven kills tonight and also added a team-high five aces to pace The Haven offense.

Juliana Nascimento (Guarulhos, Brazil/Seward C.C.) and Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Austrailia/Gladstone) recorded five and four kills, respectively. Naumann also added four aces.

Borgia also recorded a team-high eight digs.

Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguay/Consejo de. E.S.) racked up 29 assists in the win.

LHU head coach Tom Justice was very pleased with his team’s effort tonight. He was particularly pleased with the serving of the Lady Eagles.

Justice was also pleased with his team’s ability to stay on track, stay focused and play consistent volleyball, saying they recovered well when they needed to.

The Lady Eagles are back in action on Friday, Oct. 3 at Edinboro University in PSAC Crossover action.
