Freshman Greg Shertzer had a solid day for the LHU playing a hand in both Haven goals.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the second time in the three games the Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (7-4-3, 2-1-2 PSAC West) played a 110 minute match that ended in a stalemate as the Bald Eagles drew with visiting Gannon University (7-4-1, 2-2-1 PSAC West) 2-2 today at Hubert Jack Stadium.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division showdown was an important one and it looked as if LHU was going to take it early, as they went up 2-0 in just the eighth minute of play this afternoon.
With the tie however Lock Haven remains atop the PSAC West standings with eight points and the draw keeps the Bald Eagles unbeaten in their last six matches (4-0-2).
Overtime looked completely out of the question with the way the game started as The Haven jumped all over the visiting Knights.
Just two minutes into the match freshman Greg Shertzer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) put LHU up 1-0.
The goal was set up by some tremendous 1-2 passing by the Bald Eagles and forward Martin Pletz (Pittsburgh/Carlynton), coming off a two-goal game against Bloomsburg was credited with the assist.
Just over five minutes later LHU went up 2-0 on a diving header by another Bald Eagle freshman. This time it was Shertzer playing a tremendous ball into a diving Billy Pasukinis (Benton, Pa./Bento), who put the ball home.
Gannon didn’t plan on going away early and struck in the 32nd minute, cutting the deficit to just one goal at the break.
In the 75th minute Gannon tied the ball game and regulation ended 2-2, despite LHU pouring on the scoring opportunities late.
Shertzer had a solid chance late in the game to record the game-winner, but pushed a ball just right of the goal.
Overtime started with a flurry and quickly Billy Trimble (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) came up big making a diving save early in the 10 minute overtime period.
LHU created several good chances in extra time, but just couldn’t put the game-winner home.
With just 13 seconds left in the second overtime, Trimble was again forced to make a game-saving stop and he was up for the task. He finished with 14 saves in 110 minutes of work.
LHU is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. when Lock Haven hosts the University of the District of Columbia.
