LHU Soccer - Men

Bald Eagles cruise past Davis & Elkins 5-0

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (10-4-3) put on a clinic this afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium as the Bald Eagles cruised past Davis & Elkins College (10-6-2) 5-0 in an important regional match up.

Lock Haven’s athleticism was evident all over the field as it dominated every facet of the contest in one of The Haven’s best performances to date.

Davis & Elkins has been ranked nationally the majority of the season.

LHU head coach Doug Moore couldn’t be happier with the performance of his squad today, as he got a total effort from every player in the lineup.

Lock Haven, ranked fourth regionally got on the board early, as LHU’s early pressure paid off, forcing a D&E own goal just 6:18 into the match.

Freshman workhorse Kevin Wolfe (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) put LHU up 2-0 after he collected a Martin Pletz (Pittsburgh/Carlynton) pass inside the penalty box and sent it far post.

With just over 3:00 to play in the first half Doug Moran (Butler, Pa./Butler) ran onto a long pass from Tommy Ehrlich (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and drilled it far post beating D&E keeper Timothy O’Toole.

Moran’s first of two goals put LHU well in control, leading 3-0 heading into the break.

Less than 10:00 into the second half Paul Huckett (Grimsby, England/Grimsby College) put LHU up 4-0. Huckett took a pass from Ehrlich and tucked the ball home.

With just 1:20 left in the contest Moran struck for the second time on a beautiful goal. Moran sent a left-footed shot bending far post into the side netting from 24 yards out.

Lock Haven’s defensive effort was spectacular as it held Davis & Elkins to only six shots after holding the Senators without a shot for the first 40 minutes of play.

The Haven’s defense was led by Drew Clemens (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and Kevin McCune (Butler, Pa./Butler) among several others.

LHU goalie Billy Trimble (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) pitched the shutout after only being forced to make one stop.

The Bald Eagles return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. on the road at No. 23 Mercyhurst in a critical Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West match.
