LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (10-5-3, 3-2-2 PSAC West) dropped an all-important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West match to Mercyhurst University (9-4-2, 3-2-2 PSAC West) 3-2 on the road in tough weather conditions.

Lock Haven and Mercyhurst, who is ranked No. 23 in the nation sit atop the PSAC West standings, tied with 11 points, but MU will take over the top spot based on the win over LHU today.

Paul Huckett (Grimsby, England/Grimsby College) put the Bald Eagles up 1-0 early. Huckett took a pass from Greg Shertzer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) and tucked it home in the 13th minute.

The lead was short lived, as just over a minute later Mercyhurst netted the equalizer.

Shertzer put Lock Haven back on top with a goal in the 24th minute of play.

MU would go to tally two goals before the first half of play ended and that would be all the scoring in the match.

Lock Haven pushed the pace in the second and dominated throughout, but just could find an equalizer.

LHU head coach Doug Moore noted a few near misses to draw even in the second half, but looks for his team to bounce back in a big way when it plays host to PSAC West rival Slippery Rock on Wednesday with major playoff implications on the line.

Bald Eagle goalie Billy Trimble (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) turned in a fine effort today, making six saves.

The Bald Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. when they play host to SRU.
