LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (16-3, 6-0 NEC) stands alone at the top the Northeast Conference (NEC) standings after the Lady Eagles downed visiting Rider University (11-6, 5-1 NEC) 1-0 in overtime today at Charlotte Smith Field.

The battle for NEC supremacy needed more than just 70 minutes to solve the grudge fest.

With the win, LHU remains perfect in NEC play with a 6-0 record. The loss marked the first conference loss of the season for Rider.

The NEC victory extends The Haven’s unbeaten streak to 21 games against conference foes.

Amy Hordendorf (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights) provided the game’s only goal as the sophomore tallied the game-winner 5:35 into overtime. Hordendorf knocked home a ball off the stick of Alana Lewis (Trinidad & Tobago/Southeast Port of Spain).

Lewis, along with Emma Wessner (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and Casey Hughes (Schwenksville, Pa./Souderton) turned tremendous efforts on the defensive side of the ball today.

LHU goalie Erin Terreson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made five saves in the win as she turned in another solid effort between the pipes.

Lock Haven dominated much of flow of the match and created plenty of solid scoring opportunities throughout, but just couldn’t put one home in regulation. The Lady Eagles even rattled a few shots off the post.

Playing 7-on-7 in overtime, LHU quickly took advantage of the open field and as the Lady Eagles speed created a couple chances to put the game away early. LHU had two penalty corners prior to the game-winner.

In the 76th minute of play Lewis collected a ball off a goal mouth scramble and slotted in across to a wide-open Hordendorf, who banged it home.

The Lady Eagles close out their 2008 regular season next Friday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. on the road at Siena.
