LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (8-9-1, 5-9-1 PSAC West) was edged 2-1 today by visiting Slippery Rock University (12-5-1, 8-4-1 PSAC West) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
Playing in tough weather conditions the Lady Eagles trailed The Rock 1-0 at halftime, despite the shots being even at 5-5.
Lock Haven continued to battle back and press hard down the final stretch of the game.
The Haven’s pressure finally paid off in the 81st minute, much to the delight of LHU head coach Heather Davis and the home faithful.
It was Kellie Wieger (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) netting LHU’s goal after she chipped SRU goalie Sarah Lacy. Wieger collected a loose ball left after a blocked shot and sent it upper-90 from about 16 yards from goal.
The tie would be short lived as SRU quickly looked to regain the lead.
The Rock’s quick pressure paid off when Ashley Paganie scored the second of her two goals with just over six minutes to go in regulation.
LHU rookie goalie Hayely Zinn (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) played well between the pipes for The Haven and made five saves.
