SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team (0-10, 0-7 PSAC West) fell to Slippery Rock University (5-5, 3-4 PSAC West) 45-7 today on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.
The Bald Eagles were down 10-0 after the first quarter, but struck early in the second to cut The Rock lead to just 10-7.
LHU trailed 17-7 at the break, but Slippery Rock went on to score 28 second half points, including three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Reggie Mencer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) scored LHU’s touchdown on a 45-yard pass play.
With 11:59 to play in the second quarter, Mencer caught a pass from rookie quarterback Jarryd Burkett (Altoona, Pa./Altoona).
The 45-yard strike capped off a four-play drive, putting LHU right back in the ball game.
Burkett finished 8-for-14 passing with the one touchdown. He threw for 97 yards and one pick.
Defensively LHU got a solid outings from Luke Ellison (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Ryan Faddish (North Huntington, Pa./Serra Catholic).
Each recorded six tackles on the day.
Five of Ellison six tackles were solo stops. He also had two tackles for a loss and one sack. Faddish had two solo tackles.
Dean Tortorice (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional), Shawn Crebs (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and Wes Plummer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) all had five tackles.
The Bald Eagles return to action next Saturday, Nov. 8 at noon when they play host to C.W. Post in season finale.
