Wrestling in action at Eastern Michigan Open, Cook takes home 184-title

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Several members of the Lock Haven University wrestling team kicked off their 2008 season today at the Eastern Michigan Open.

Leading the way for the Bald Eagles was 2007 NCAA qualifier Jeremie Cook (Venice, Fla./Venice), who took home the title at 184 pounds. The junior went 4-0 on the day.

Cook started the tournament with an 8-0 major decision win over Erich Smith of Michigan. He then followed that up with a 7-4 over Navy’s Casey Caldwell.

Cook’s third match didn’t last very long as he pinned Andrew Kissel of Purdue just 1:59 in.

In the championship bout Cook edged Michigan State’s Ian Hilton, who was competing unattached, 3-2.

Sophomore Dan Craig (Paw Paw, Mich./Allegan) was sixth at heavyweight after going 2-2. He won 5-3 then pinned Findlay’s Cody Ruffer before dropping his final two bouts of the day.

Sophomore Billy Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) and junior Dave Richmond (Oxford, N.J./Warren Hills) were both 1-2.

The Bald Eagles are back in action next Saturday, Nov. 8 with several athletes taking part in the Washington and Jefferson Open.
