Bald Eagles play host to C.W. Post in 2008 season finale, LHU hosts “Take a Kid to the Game Day”
 

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team (0-10, 0-7 PSAC West) is set to host C.W. Post (2-8, 2-5 PSAC East) on Saturday, Nov. 8 at noon.

The Game:

Kickoff Saturday (Nov. 8) is set for noon as the Bald Eagles welcome PSAC newbie C.W. Post to Hubert Jack Stadium for the first time. Post joined the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this year as an associated member along with full-time members Gannon and Mercyhurst. The PSAC crossover game this weekend marks the 2008 season finale for both teams. The Bald Eagles enter week 11 sooking to close out the season on a high note. LHU is 0-10 overall and finished 0-7 in PSAC West action. The Haven is coming off a 45-7 loss to Slippery Rock, while Post is coming off a 21-14 loss to Kutztown. Saturday at Jack Stadium also marks “Take a Kid a Kid to Game Day.”



The Series:

This is the first ever meeting between the two schools.

Take a Kid to the Game Day

Local youth get in free

Saturday at Hubert Jack Stadium, the Lock Haven University Department of Athletics and the Bald Eagles football team will host “Take a Kid to the Game Day.” Take a Kid to the Game Day is an NCAA program that celebrates community youth at each of its member institutions. LHU athletics is opening its gates to local youth through grade 8 for free admission.

LHU notes:

Season Leaders ... Wes Plummer is the leading tackler for the Bald Eagles with 57 (26 solo & 31 assist) … Dean Tortorice has 54 stops … Shane Barie has 52 and Shawn Crebs has 50

Lock Haven punter Brendon Pickel is ranked 32nd out of 100 punters in Division II, averaging 39.44 yards per punt

The Haven closed out PSAC West action with a 45-7 loss to Slippery Rock on the road.

The Haven dropped its 2008 Homecoming game to Gannon University 26-0 in the first ever meeting between the two schools … Defensively LHU got a tremendous effort from freshman Skyler Wool, a Jersey Shore, Pa. native, who had a game-high seven tackles. All seven of his tackles were solo stops, which included three for a loss. Wool also had one forced one fumble and had a sack.

Jarryd Burkett and Jason Eby split time under center for LHU. Burkett got the start and was 5-for-13 passing while Eby went 3-for-9.

LHU punter Brendon Pickel is ranked 33rd of 100 punters in Division II with an average punt of 39.51.

Wes Plummer is the Bald Eagles leading tackler with 52 stops … Dean Tortorice is second with 49, followed very closely by Shane Barie, who has 48 … Shawn Crebs has 45 stops including 26 solo tackles.

Prior to the Gannon game, Lock Haven was coming off a 24-21 loss to Clarion in a PSAC West thriller …Lock Haven played well and the offense got a spark from backup quarterback Jason Eby ... The senior was 13-for-29 passing for 146 yards ... He threw one touchdown, ran for another and threw no interceptions ... Defensively, LHU got a tremendous game from senior linebacker

Shawn Crebs, who led the way with a game-high 11 tackles, including eight solo

stops ... The senior also forced two fumbles.

The loss at No. 8 Cal marked the fourth time in seven games that LHU matched up against a nationally ranked opponent … Cal was the highest ranked team LHU has played … Prior to the Cal game three of The Haven’s first six opponents were ranked in the top-25 … LHU opened the season against Glenville State, who features one of top running backs in Division II in the form of Jerry Seymour, the nations leading rusher.

The game at No. 12 IUP was tied 7-7 at halftime, but IUP’s potent offense came alive in the third quarter, scoring 28 points (four TD’s in the third) … Freshman quarterback Jarryd Burkett was 8-for-16 passing and threw one interception … He passed for 33 yards on the day … Ibrahim Smith scored LHU’s TD … Smith led The Haven with 16 rushes for 28 yards.

Defensively LHU was led by Dean Tortorice, who had a team-high six tackles against IUP ... He made five solo stops and recorded one tackles for a loss … Andre Morrison had five tackles while Aaron Pryer and Shawn Crebs both made four.

LHU was shutout for the second time in ’08 when Shippenburg beat them 36-0 at Hubert Jack Stadium

In a rain-soaked loss at WCU, LHU posted its first touchdown of the year … Sophomore Ibrahim Smith scored on a six-yard run … Setting up the TD was a 48 yard interception return by DeMarr Dowell that put LHU at the West Chester seven-yard line.

Freshman quarterback Jarryd Burkett made the second start of this career at home vs. Shippensburg.

Despite a 30-0 loss in their opener the Bald Eagles defense looked solid … The Haven got off to a solid start as sophomore linebacker Wes Plummer (picked off Pioneer quarterback James McCants on the just the second play of Glenville’s opening drive. Plummer had a solid outing on defense for Lock Haven. Along with his interception he made five tackles … Shane Barie and Dustin Harsch each recorded a team-high six tackles. Five other Bald Eagles had four tackles on the night.

Bald Eagles fall to The Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2008) – The Lock Haven University football team (0-10, 0-7 PSAC West) fell to Slippery Rock University (5-5, 3-4 PSAC West) 45-7 today on the road in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

The Bald Eagles were down 10-0 after the first quarter, but struck early in the second to cut The Rock lead to just 10-7.

LHU trailed 17-7 at the break, but Slippery Rock went on to score 28 second half points, including three touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Reggie Mencer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) scored LHU’s touchdown on a 45-yard pass play.

With 11:59 to play in the second quarter, Mencer caught a pass from rookie quarterback Jarryd Burkett (Altoona, Pa./Altoona).

The 45-yard strike capped off a four-play drive, putting LHU right back in the ball game.

Burkett finished 8-for-14 passing with the one touchdown. He threw for 97 yards and one pick.

Defensively LHU got a solid outings from Luke Ellison (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Ryan Faddish (North Huntington, Pa./Serra Catholic).

Each recorded six tackles on the day.

Five of Ellison six tackles were solo stops. He also had two tackles for a loss and one sack. Faddish had two solo tackles.

Dean Tortorice (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional), Shawn Crebs (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and Wes Plummer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) all had five tackles.

Late fourth quarter rally lifts Kutztown past football, 21-14

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2008) – Junior quarterback Shane Martin completed a pass to sophomore Kendall Coleman with 45.5 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to propel Kutztown University past C.W. Post, 21-14, Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division football action.



Kutztown wins its second straight game and evens its record to 5-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play. C.W. Post slips to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in the division.



Kutztown totaled 374 offensive yards on 185 passing and 199 rushing. C.W. Post completed the game with 346 offensive yards, including 314 passing. Senior Nick Georgetti (Holbrook, N.Y.), who finished the game completing 23 of 41 pass attempts, has thrown for over 300 yards in the last two games for C.W. Post.



The Pioneers attempted an early score in their first series of the game when senior kicker Andrew Kroell (Baldwin, N.Y.) attempted a 31 field goal but missed wide left.



With just over two minutes remaining in the first, Georgetti completed a 29-yard pass to senior wide receiver Rich Caster (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) in the endzone but the TD was negated due to offsetting penalties for offsides against Kutztown and holding against C.W. Post, bringing the ball back to the line of scrimmage at the KU 29. The Pioneers could not advance further and lost possession on downs.



The Golden Bears scored in the second quarter at 10:25 when sophomore Matt Dineen kicked a 29-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead.



The Pioneers answered with a 49-yard touchdown completion to Cisco Ragsdale from Georgetti at 9:25. Kroell kicked the PAT to give C.W. Post a 7-3 lead.



C.W. Post furthered its lead in the quarter when Georgetti completed a 33-yard pass to senior wide receiver Chris Harris (Islip, N.Y.) with 4:15 remaining in the half to lead 14-3.



Sophomore Matt Dineen kicked a 38-yard field goal with 1:44 remaining to cut C.W. Post’s lead at the half to 14-6.



In the fourth quarter, Kutztown’s Dineen attempted a 43-yard field goal but the kick was blocked by junior defensive back Kristopher Barnes (Uniondale, N.Y.) and recovered by the Pioneers at the KU 22. C.W. Post advanced to the Golden Bears’ 49 but was forced to punt.



The Pioneers later attempted another TD on 2nd-and-goal from the KU 4 but lost possession after Georgetti was sacked for a loss of six and fumbled the ball. Kutztown’s Craig Moose recovered the ball from the KU 8 with 7:23 remaining in the fourth.



Junior running back Dontay Wilson took the handoff on 1st-and-10 from the KU 17 and broke for a 45-yard rush to the CWP 34. The next play resulted in a 34-yard completed pass from Martin to Jason Uhlig at 5:14. Martin completed another pass to Uhlig for the conversion that tied the game at 14.



On the kick return, Ragsdale returned the kick 43 yards to set up 1st-and-10 at the KU 44. The Pioneers lost yardage on a 10-yard penalty called for holding. C.W. Post could not make good on the next two downs and punted the ball.



On the next drive, Kutztown, starting from its own 16, pushed the ball downfield to the CWP 22, setting up for Martin’s TD completion to Coleman.



Martin finished the game completing 13 of 29 pass attempts for 185 yards and two touchdown completions with one interception.



Caster caught five passes from Georgetti to lead the game with 62 receiving yards.



On the ground, Wilson led the game with 111 net yards on 22 carries.
