LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team is set to the host the Northeast Conference (NEC) Field Hockey Championships. The Lady Eagles, who just won their fifth consecutive NEC regular title, will be looking for the three-peat.
The NEC Tournament:
The NEC tournament kicks off tomorrow morning on Lock Haven’s Charlotte E. Smith Field with semifinal action. Tomorrow’s (Friday, Nov. 7) first semifinal is set for 11 a.m. and pits two-seeded Rider University (12-6, 6-1 NEC) against three-seeded Sacred Heart University (7-11, 5-2 NEC. Semifinal two is set for 1:30 p.m. No. 1 Lock Haven (17-3, 7-0 NEC) plays host to fourth-seeded Quinnipiac University (5-12, 3-4 NEC). The championship match is set for Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. on Charlotte Smith Field.
Lady Eagles looking for the three-peat:
Lock Haven enters the tournament, winners in its seven matches and is currently firing on all cylinders. The Lady Eagles will be looking for their third straight NEC tournament title and third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division I play-in game. LHU has played in the last two NCAA play-in matches falling to Richmond and Stanford. LHU won NEC tournament titles in 2007 and 2006. Lock Haven has won the NEC regular season title every since returning to Division I play and joining the NEC in 2004 (2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 & 2004).
How they got here:
The Lady Eagles clinched their fifth straight regular season title after capping off their second consecutive perfect season in conference play.
The Haven capped off the season by soaring past Siena 8-0, improving to a perfect 7-0 in NEC action.
With the win LHU extends its most recent unbeaten streak to seven matches.
Lock Haven has also won 22 straight contests against NEC opponents.
Sophomore forward Amy Hordendorf (Topton, Pa./Brandywine Heights led LHU vs. Siena with a two-goal outing.
Hordenorf leads the team in goals this season with 19. She also has six assists for a team-high 44 points.
Senior Blair Wynne (Trinidad and Tobago/Sangre Grande) is second on the team with 17 goals and six assists (40 points).
Suzann Hobart has played in a key role in LHU’s explosive offense with 10 goals and a team-high 14 assists (34 points). During the regular season LHU outscored opponents 62-24.
Sophomore goalie Erin Terreson (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) has the logged the majority of minutes in the cage and has been impressive to say the least. She’ll carry a 1.56 goals-against average and .753 save percentage into the post-season. Terreson has 73 saves on the year.
Lock Haven has won seven straight matches since losing to then-ranked No. 14 Penn State (ranked #9 in latest NFHCA poll) back in early October.
