LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University football team (0-11) was edged by C.W. Post (3-8) 30-28 in its 2008 season finale this afternoon at Hubert Jack Stadium.
The Bald Eagles went down early, but never let Post pull away, but just couldn’t find the answer late.
Senior Shawn Crebs (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) took full advantage of playing in front of The Haven faithful for one last time and turned in a monster performance. The tenacious linebacker kept Lock Haven in the game with a game-high 11 tackles. Seven of his 11 tackles were solo stops. He also had one tackle for a loss, forced two fumbles, recovered a fumble and recorded one sack.
LHU trailed 7-0 after the first quarter, but an Ilio DiPaolo (Orchard Park, N.Y./St. Francis) 25-yard touchdown reception cut the C.W. Post lead to 7-6. DiPaolo hooked up with quarterback Ibrahim Smith (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry), who saw time under center today.
The touchdown capped off a five play, 39-yard drive, but The Haven PAT failed. Post quickly responded and took a 14-6 lead into halftime.
With 12:51 to play in the third quarter Micah Coleman (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) hauled in a 38-yard touchdown reception from Jason Eby (Ulster, Pa./Athens). Lock Haven went for two, but failed to convert, trailing Post 14-12.
Coleman’s touchdown capped off a five play drive that went 47 yards to the end zone.
Both teams traded field goals as senior Brendon Pickel (Easton, Pa./Easton) connected on a 25-yard attempt to make it 17-15 in favor of Post.
LHU trailed 24-15 heading into the final quarter, but quickly struck in the final period of action as Smith scored on a seven-yard run with 13:20 play. Smith’s seven-yard scamper capped off a nine-play drive that marched the Bald Eagles 67 yards down the field.
Trailing 30-22, Eby scored on a two-yard run to the cut the lead to 30-28. LHU went for two and the tie, but couldn’t connect.
Coleman led LHU in receiving as the junior had a big day with five catches for 100 yards. DiPaolo made four catches for 60 yards.
Smith paved the way on the ground with 94 yards on 27 carries. Eby went 14-for-20 passing with one TD.
Along with Crebs, Shane Barie (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) also turned in a strong defensive effort. Barie made nine tackles, while Ryan Faddish (North Huntington, Pa./Sierra Catholic) made eight stops.
