SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action today at the NCAA Division II East Region Championships hosted by Slippery Rock University.
The No. 25 Bald Eagles turned in a sensational performance on their way to the team championship. The Haven won with 51 points, 20 points better than second place Edinboro University, ranked 12th nationally.
The Bald Eagles put five runners in the top 15 and were once again led by the one-two punch of a duo of sophomores, who come in the form of Tim Getz (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township).
Getz was sixth overall with a time of 31:51 and Hilton was seventh with a time of 32:05.
Junior Brandon Pomerantz (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) turned in another big race for the second week in a row, as he ran to a ninth-place showing, covering the 10K course in 32:40.
A.J. Johnson (Coventry, R.I./Coventry) and Jed Yeatts (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanna) helped lead LHU to the championship as the two finished 14th and 15th, respectively.
The Lady Eagles finished eight overall and were led by rookie Lindsey Lambert (Howell, N.J./Howell), who finished in the top-10.
Lambert turned in a phenomenal performance as the freshman raced to All-Region status. She finished eighth with a time of 22:33.
Senior Shala Simms (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) and Alyssa Douma (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) finished 31st and 35th, respectively. Simms ran 23:28, while Douma crossed the line in 23:33.
With their win the Bald Eagles qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships, which are slated for Saturday, Nov. 22 at Slippery Rock University.
