LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University swim team (1-1, 1-1 PSAC) fell to visiting East Stroudsburg University 104-101 this afternoon at Zimmerli Pool.

LHU head coach Andy Waeger was pleased with his team effort today, calling it a very competitive meet.

“It was an extremely competitive meet that went down to the last event,” Waeger said. “There were so many races that could have gone either way and I told the women that the meet wasn’t going to be won or lost with the first place finishes, but it will come down to the third, fourth and fifth place finishes.

Waeger felt some of his Lady Eagles really stepped up today.

“We had some really great performances and our women really stepped up today. Although we ended up losing by three points, this was one of the best meets we have had since I have been here at LHU,” said Waeger. “We had a great atmosphere lead by the entire LHU men’s basketball team.”

The meet started with a bang, as freshman Kasey Campbell (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) came from 3.2 seconds behind to top ESU’s “B” relay team in 200 yard medley relay in the day’s first event.

Shannon Samanka (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 free. Samanka was followed by Erin McCraken (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) and Becky Fountaine (Wantage, N.J./High Point).

The 50 free and 400 IM were also big events for LHU.

Rookie Samantha Durham (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) turned in a sensational performance in winning the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.06.

A huge key on the day for The Haven was its 1-2-3 finish in the 500 freestyle. Campbel won with a time of 5:37.37.

In every race a Lady Eagles competed in today they swam season best times, which is a huge plus for Lock Haven.

The Lady Eagles dive back into competition on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. in Zimmerli Pool when they play host to IUP and Kutztown.
