CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (28-4) continued its strong play tonight, downing Mercyhurst University 3-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Semifinal action.
LHU downed Mercyhurst 25-18, 25-23 and 25-15 and with the win the Lady Eagles advance to tomorrow’s PSAC Championship match.
Leading the way for Lock Haven was senior Stacey Borgia (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail), who had a match-high 13 kills, while hitting .526. She also added four digs and a team-high three blocks.
Christie Naumann (Charters Towers, Australia/Gladstone) was solid on offense for The Haven with a nine-kill effort. She also added five digs and two aces.
Juliana Nasceimento (Guarulhos, Brazil/Seward Community C.C.) added eight kills to help pace the Lady Eagles offensive attack in the big win.
Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguay/Consego de. E.S.) turned in another big-time performance as LHU’s playmaker with 30 assists.
Heidi Stine (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) led Lock Haven with seven digs.
With the win LHU head coach Tom Justice’s squad extended its win streak to nine matches.
The Lady Eagles advance to tomorrow’s PSAC title match at California (Pa.) University. The match is set for 7 p.m. and LHU will meet the winner of the Cal – Shippensburg match.
