Bald Eagles fall to Rider 27-16

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team (0-2) fell to Rider University (1-0) 27-16 tonight on the road.

The Bald Eagles picked up four wins, but fell to 0-2 in duals this year.

LHU dropped the first three matches of the night and found itself trailing 12-0 before senior Matt Fittery (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) came up big for LHU.

Fittery’s major decision (14-4) over Rider’s Nick Weaver put The Haven on the board.

With the win Fittery improves to 6-1 on the year with his only loss coming in the Missouri dual last Saturday.

At 174 junior Alex Dalrymple (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) picked up a hard-fought 4-2 win over RU’s Joe Ferber.

Senior Tom Kocher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) won by forfeit at 184.

Senior Ben Hepburn (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) made it three Haven wins in a row as he downed Rider’s Tyler Smith 10-3 at 197-pounds, putting LHU right back in the match.

Lock Haven needed fall at heavyweight to steal the win on the road, but Rider’s Ed Bordas came up big for the hosts and sealed the win for the Broncs with a pin of his own.

LHU is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 29 when the Bald Eagles host the 2008 Mat Town Tournament. Action starts at 9 a.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse, Mat Town, U.SA.
