LEXINGTON, Ky. – Five members of the Lock Haven University volleyball team have been honored with American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Atlantic Region accolades.
The Lady Eagles had four players earn a spot on the Atlantic Region First Team, while one player picked up honorable mention honors.
Seniors Stacey Borgia (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) and Julianna Nasciemento (Guarulhos, Brazil/Seward County Community College) along with junior Christie Naumman (Charters Towers, Austrailia/Gladstone) and freshman Haley Gribler (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) all earned First Team honors.
Junior Fabiana Gomez (Montevideo, Uruguay/Consejo de. E.S.) picked up honorable mention status.
Along with her first team selection, Gribler was also selected as Atlantic Region Freshman of the Year. This goes along with her Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Rookie of the Year honors.
Borgia, the 2008 PSAC East Player of the Year was a five-time PSAC East Player of the Week during the regular season.
Along with AVCA All-Region honors, Borgia was also awarded 2008 Daktronics NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Volleyball First Team honors.
Boriga led Lock Haven in kills with 402, while hitting a sensational .479.
Her .479 hitting percentage is currently the best mark in all of Division II.
Borgia also led the team in digs and blocks with 147 and 87, respectively.
Nasciemento, a PSAC East First Teamer has 227 kills for the Lady Eagles. She also added 39 aces and 38 blocks to go along with 31 digs.
Naumman earns AVCA All-Region status after picking up Daktronics All-Region honors and All-PSAC honors.
Naumann, a junior was Lock Haven’s ace serving. She recorded a team-high 71 aces using a phenomenal jump-serve. She also had 286 kills, from her outside-hitter spot, which was second best on the team.
Grilber turned in a solid rookie campaign for LHU head coach Tom Justice. She had 146 kills and 43 blocks in 86 games played. She added 36 digs and 27 aces as she keeps the future of Haven volleyball looking very bright.
Gomez earned All-Region honorable mention honors after being named to the PSAC East First Team. She led the team in assists with 1133. She added 56 kills, 28 aces and a solid 49 blocks.
All five players were a huge reason behind the Lady Eagles successful season, as they led LHU all over the court. The Haven finished the 2008 season 29-6 overall and won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East regular season title after going 12-0 in division play. The Haven was PSAC finalists and Atlantic Region semifinalists. LHU head coach Tom Justice was named PSAC East Coach of the Year for leading the team to another successful outing in 2008.
