MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team (4-3) picked up two big wins on the mats today, competing at Millersville University.
LHU head coach Rocky Bonomo and his Bald Eagles put on a clinic, as they earned lopsided wins over Princeton and Millersville.
Lock Haven made it look easy, downing Princeton 40-6 and cruised past host-Millersville 31-15.
Lock Haven won nine matches, including the first four in the rout of Princeton.
The Haven was solid again in the Millersville match as LHU won seven of 10 bouts.
Nick Hyatt (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and George Ester (Odenton, Md./Arundel) picked up bonus-point wins early for LHU against Princeton, competing at 125 and 133, respectively.
Hyatt pinned the Tigers Robert Benitez in just 1:27 and Ester followed it up with a tech fall of Nikhil Pereria, as LHU quickly took control of the match.
The Bald Eagles never looked back and won the next two matches.
Justin Loudon (York Haven, Pa./Red Land) picked up the first win of his career in the Princeton dual, competing at 149 pounds.
LHU got another quick start in the Millersville match as Hyatt and Billy Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) got big wins for the crimson and white.
Hyatt followed up his early-morning pin with a10-1 major decision of MU’s Josh Andel.
Ashnault ended his match with Sean Reed in 3:56, giving LHU bonus points by way of his pin.
Matt Fittery (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) won his team-high 19th match of the year in dominating fashion, as he earned the tech fall over John Lester in 6:15. Fittery was winning 19-3 with just 45 second left in the match as the senior 149-pounder improved to a sensational 19-2 on the year.
LHU is back in action at the Southern Scuffle on December 29-30 (Monday – Tuesday). The Scuffle is hosted by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center with action running all day on the 29th and 30th of Dec.
