LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University wrestling team (4-3) is set to travel to local-rival Penn State University on Sunday, Jan. 4.
The Match:
The Bald Eagles will take on the 16th-ranked Nittany Lions on Sunday, Jan. 4 at 3 p.m. in Rec Hall. Prior to the LHU-PSU match, Penn State will take on No. 9 Lehigh. Lock Haven is 4-3 on the year and coming off action at the prestigious Southern Scuffle Tournament, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The Haven was successful in its last dual-meet action as they earned lopsided wins over Millersville University and Princeton back on Dec. 20, 2008. The match will mark the first action of the New Year for both teams. Penn State (4-2) is coming off 27-10 win over West Virginia on Dec. 14.
The Series:
LHU trails in the all-time series 4-29, with Penn State winning the last six, including a 35-8 win last season in LHU’s Thomas Fieldhouse. LHU’s last win came in 2002 as the Bald Eagles posted back-to-back wins in ’01 and ’02. LHU other two wins came in 1995 and 1996. The Nittany Lions won the first ever meeting between the two the Central, Pa. schools 31-5 in 1942.
