LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University swim team (2-3, 2-3 PSAC) hit the pool for its first competition of 2009 and turned in a big performance in the Lady Eagles home venue defeating Millersville University 113-87 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Confernece (PSAC) dual.

Lock Haven won 10 of 11 events as they cruised past MU.

Leading the way individually for The Haven was All-American Amanda Terray (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley), who hit a NCAA Division II “A” cut time in the 200 backstroke.

The sophomore swam a 2:05.64 to qualify for the national championships in Houston.

Terray’s time was also a PSAC qualifying time and a Zimmerli Pool record.

Eight different Lady Eagles swam season best times this evening, while LHU also won both the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Kasey Campbell (Freasterville, Pa./Neshaminy), Allison Schaefer (Allentown, N.J./Hamilton East), Becky Fountaine (Wantage, N.J./High Point), Shannon Samanka (DuBois, Pa./DuBois), Meghan Grenier (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown), Rachel Vagnoni (Norristown, Pa./Norristown), Amanda Palmer (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) and Terray all hit season best times.

Samanka hit season best times in both the 200 IM and 500 freestyle, as she turned in an awesome performance in her last competition at home.

LHU head coach Andy Waeger and the Lady Eagles also took time to honor their seniors tonight including Samanka and Ashley Lightcap (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown). Lightcap is listed as a junior, but will graduate early.

Waeger was very pleased with his team’s performance tonight.

“We have a really scrappy group of women who enjoy to race,” said Waeger.

“This was our first meet since before the Thanksgiving holiday and since then we’ve been working incredibly hard in the pool and the weight room,” Waeger added.

“With the kind of shape our women are in, they have an amazing ability to finish races. I was very proud of them tonight.”
