UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s and women’s track & field team turned in a solid outing at the Penn State Open, hosted by PSU at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
Both the Bald and Lady Eagles had a number of notable performances.
Leading the way for The Haven men was Randy Sylvia (Johnstown, Pa./Richland), who won the weight throw with a mark of 58-02.50. Sylvia’s winning heave was also good enough to top his own school record in the event.
Running very solid for the Bald Eagles was Nick Hilton (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), who took third in the mile with a time of 4:16.70.
Chris Edelman (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) turned in a very solid outing the 400 meter dash. He placed sixth overall with a time of 48.93.
Edelman’s sensational run in the 400 established a Lock Haven school record in the event.
Ben McConnell (Danville, Pa./Danville) turned in a record-breaking performance at 600 meters. McConnell took seventh overall with a time of 1:22.37, which set a school record in the event. McConnell’s school record was third of the day for the Bald Eagles as he joined Edelman and Sylvia.
The Lady Eagles also had a solid day.
Leading the way for LHU was Alaina Leonard (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) and Chelsea Morse (Beaver Dams, N.Y./Campbell-Savona).
Leonard placed second in the weight throw with mark of 53-07, which established a Lady Eagle school record. She was third on the all-time list coming into today competition.
Morse kicked off her 2009 season with a fourth-place finish in the women’s high jump. She cleared 5-7 and took fourth on attempts.
Lindsey Lambert (Howell, N.J./Howell) and Alyssa Douma (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) finished 12th and 13th in the women’s mile with times of 5:13.15 and 5:14.30, respectively.
